Ballet-Inspired Fitness for Everyone!
UPDATE! SO.....my MRI results came back and unfortunately I have a full thickness (complete) labral tear of the hip and a paralabral cyst in the hip socket. Luckily the hip structure looks good, the bones are healthy and there is no significant arthritis. Arthroscopic surgery to repair the labrum and remove the cyst would be the only option. I have been told the wait list is rather long so I am waiting to go back to my doctor to ask questions and find out some more information about what my options are. I will keep you posted.
UPDATE! I miss you! All is going OK. I am having weekly dry needling / physio which is helping a lot. They did not give me cortisone shots yet as they needed to get a few more tests done to rule some other more serious structural issues with the bone and joints. Having had an X-ray, bone scan and CT scan they have ruled out AVN/Osteonecrosis, hip dysplasia, impingement or significant arthritis (phew!) but they still think the pain is a labral tear and some wear on the cartilage that has caused the damage to the tendons and tissues due to overuse and repetitive movements. I have an MRI / arthrogram booked for May 1 so hopefully that should give me some more answers and we can get it all fixed once and for all.
As some of you are aware I have been having some serious issues with my left hip which started to become painful back in December. I have recently been to see a specialist and had some ultrasound tests on it. Although nothing too worrisome or significant showed up (no new hip needed just yet!), they did however find chronic damage and abnormalities to various tendons and tissues around the hip due to repetitive stress and overuse which has led to the inflammation, pain and tendinosis. They have prescribed rest and a course of cortisone shots.
As of late it has become increasingly hard to teach and perform certain steps/movements and after careful consideration, it is with sadness that I have taken the decision to cancel all online and in-person classes for the remainder of the season. I need to take this time now to recover, look after myself and not do any more damage.

My Evolved Life - Podcast
As a society we tend to be much more reactive than proactive. We love to procrastinate. We love to put things off. We prefer to cure symptoms instead of prevent them.
This is too often true when it comes to our health. Many of us push it down our priority list in favor of other obligations, only to regret it later on in life.
This is especially true with exercise...
It's never too later to start. But the sooner you do, the easier it'll be to develop good habits and get ahead of symptoms.
And, we need to start looking at exercise through a wider lens... it's not just about your physical body. Exercise improves your mental health. Exercise makes you a better business owner, a better parent and a better person (think about this one).
On this week's episode of My Evolved Life, I have an incredible conversation with Sarah Stewart (Balletiques), a ballet teacher with a passion for her Silver Swans, about the importance of having a long-term vision on health and why you should start exercising today.
Balletiques & Bubbles
On January 29, 2020, Balletiques hosted an event in support of the Calgary Silver Linings Foundation at Festival Hall. The Calgary Silver Linings Foundation provides support and builds awareness of eating disorders in Alberta and has the grand mission of building a residential treatment facility here in Calgary. The event consisted of a mini-Balletiques class with 100+ participants (it was electric!), a silent auction, some local pop-ups including Nourish Sweat Soul, Evolution VN and the Bamboo Ballroom, light nibbles supplied by Jugo Juice, Hula Poke, Crave Cupcakes and Dirt Belly and of course, Bubbles!
We raised $2,132.55 in the support of the Silver Linings Foundation. Thanks so much to all who attended and donated, and our Silent Auction donors and winners. It was a great success.
Watch the official video below of the magical event, and we hope to see you at the next one.
